Back in 2011, Marc Cortens and I played around with the idea of taking the melodies of Johann Strauss, father and son, and turning them into songs. It had never been done properly before and I have to admit: I find the melodies irresistible.
I didn’t want to create either a slavish imitation of the 19th century, nor a smart-ass “reinvention” à la Malcolm McLaren’s “Lady Butterfly”. Just the Strauss songs stripped down to their basic appeal: melodies with lyrics that suit the mood and tone.
Fast forward to 2019 and Flemish crooner Harry Coseman came aboard for an album that will be called “The Voice of Strauss” (release late 2020 if everything goes to plan). “Come to Me” was the first single; I was going to say that I like it particularly, but then I like all of them. But “Come to Me” (based on the glorious Wiener Blut” waltz), is particularly lush and romantic.
I decided to play it straight, what you hear is what you get: a big, sweeping melody and romantic lyrics. Yep, just that.

Come to Me – official lyrics
Come to me, come to me
Like a cloud on the wind on the sea
Come to me, come to me
Like the sun pouring heaven on me
Come to me, come to me
With your hand in my hand we will be
Just as free, you and me
As that cloud on the wind on the sea
The bells are ringing, voices are singing
Come to me, baby, come to me baby
Friends are coming, all our friends calling
For the best day, the best in your life
Come to me, come to me
Like a cloud on the wind on the sea
Come to me, come to me
Like the sun pouring heaven on me
Come to me, come to me
With your hand in my hand we will be
Just as free, you and me
As that cloud on the wind on the sea
I dreamt about the way it would be
The way it should be
With just you and me
I dreamt about the way it would be
(when I) gave my heart to you
There was a time, there was a place
A lonely look upon a face
But that was then, never again
Now I gave my heart to you
Come to me, come to me
Like a cloud on the wind on the sea
Come to me, come to me
Like the sun pouring heaven on me
Come to me, come to me
With your hand in my hand we will be
Just as free, you and me
As that cloud on the wind on the sea
