London, London: the refugee’s view
London, London: the refugee’s view
Cibelle track echoes previous generation’s refugee issues
Given the debate about refugees that is currently raging across the world, Cibelle’s choice of “London, London” as a single is accidentally topical. Written by Caetano Veloso, one of the founders of the Tropicalia movement, it is a simple, breezy account of staying in London and feeling safe in the 70s. Despite coming on the heels of the unfortunate killing of a Brazilian by London police, it gives a little indication of the relief of moving to a stable democracy (Veloso was exiled from Brazil’s military dictatorship at the time).
