“Patience” by Take That pays off at Brits
There must be a moral to the story somewhere. After being one of the most successful boy bands, after splitting and having only very minor success as solo artists (with the exception of Robbie Williams), Take That reformed last year and were awarded with a Brit award in February 2007. The award was for the single “Patience”, and it seems like it paid off in their case. It’s a nice tune, and well produced. Best single of the year? Not for me personally, but certainly a popular choice if the messageboards are anything to go (and they usually are). So what is “Patience” about? Click through to find out.
“Patience” is almost a textbook example of the “Keep it Simple, Stupid” theory of lyric writing. The story behind it is immediately clear – the singer is asking his romantic interest to give him some time – and it never deviates from this theme.
Patience“, by Take That
“Just have a little patience
I’m still hurting from a love I lost
I’m feeling your frustration
that any minute all the pain will stop
just hold me close inside your arms tonight
don’t be to hard on my emotions
Cause I need time
My heart is numb has no feeling
So while I’m still healing just try and have a little patience
I really wanna start over again
I know you wanna be my salvation
the one that I can always depend
I’ll try to be strong believe me
I’m trying to move on
it’s complicated but understand me
Cause I need time
My heart is numb has no feeling
So while I’m still healing just try and have little patience yeah
Have a little patience yeah
Cause the scars run so deep it’s been hard but I have to believe
Have a little patience
Have a little patience
Whooo cause I
I just need time
My heart is numb has no feeling
so while I’m still healing
just try and have a little patience
Have a little patience
My heart is numb has no feeling
so while I’m still healing
just try and have a little patience”
For me, it’s just a little too clichéd (numb hearts rarely feel pain, is it worth repeating this?). We don’t get any picture of either the girl being addressed or the previous one. But that’s quibbling, perhaps. Congrats to Take That for the award – and a good pop song.
