RIP: Bruce “Sesame Street” Hart
RIP: Bruce “Sesame Street” Hart
Spare a thought for Bruce Hart, the lyricist who came up with the famous line, "Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street". It must be one of those songs that always seemed like it was out there for millions of people. But of course, someone had to come up with it. Hart, 68, died of lung cancer in New York and is survived by his wife Carol, who also wrote for Sesame Street and other American TV shows. Hart also wrote "Free to Be… You and Me". Incidentally, is there any truth to the rumour that legendary jazz musician Toots Thielemens provided that distinctive harmonica line to Sesame Street? In any case, it has been covered dozens of times from Oscar Peterson to Sly & Robbie. See a selection on iTunes Europe or iTunes US
