When my musician friend Marc Cortens approached me some time in 2010 to talk about an idea he had, I never imagined it would take this direction. We had often met and talked about how important great melodies are, no matter what genre of music you work in.
“Let’s do something with the melodies of Strauss,” he suggested. When it comes to melodies, nobody did it better than Strauss father and son. And which lyricist would not jump at the idea of having Johann Strauss as their co-writer?
To cut a very long story short, here we are in 2020 with the first release of Harry Coseman singing “Come to Me”. You can easily spot it as a re-working of Johann Strauss’ “Wiener Blut/Vienna style” (“Vienna Blood” is a really sloppy translation).
One of the people we approached, Harry Coseman, is one of Belgium’s finest singers, and turned out to be just as excited as we were about the idea.
To avoid falling into copycat mode, we decided to update the arrangement – but also the tone of the whole project. That is why we shot the video one morning on Santa Monica beach. “Why pretend we are somewhere in the 19th century, ” as Coseman put it. “We live in more interesting times.” I’d add that these are timeless melodies anyway.
Stay tuned for more releases over the year 2020.
Come to Me (Wiener Blut)
Come to me, come to me
Like a cloud on the wind on the sea
Come to me, come to me
Like the sun pouring heaven on me
Come to me, come to me
With your hand in my hand we will be
Just as free, you and me
As that cloud on the wind on the sea
The bells are ringing, voices are singing
Come to me, baby, come to me baby
Friends are coming, all our friends calling
For the best day, the best in your life
Come to me, come to me
Like a cloud on the wind on the sea
Come to me, come to me
Like the sun pouring heaven on me
Come to me, come to me
With your hand in my hand we will be
Just as free, you and me
As that
cloud on the wind on the sea
I dreamt about the way it would be
The way it should be
With just you and me
I dreamt about the way it would be
(when I) gave my heart to you
There was a time, there was a place
A lonely look upon a face
But that was then, never again
Now I gave my heart to you
Come to me, come to me
Like a cloud on the wind on the sea
Come to me, come to me
Like the sun pouring heaven on me
Come to me, come to me
With your hand in my hand we will be
Just as free, you and me
As that cloud on the wind on the sea
