Burt Bacharach says it with words
{mosimage}He is the songwriter’s songwriter, the Earl of 60’s Cool, sophisticate incarnate. But until now, he has never written the words to his own songs. At the age of 77, Burt Bacharach is releasing an album featuring his own lyrics. And boy is he angry…
With "At This Time", Burt Bacharach is taking the unusual step of speaking out. In an interview with Reuters, the composer of "Walk on By" and "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head" admits: "I never was a political person in my life. I wrote songs during Vietnam, not about Vietnam. I was just writing love songs. Leading my own life in my own insulated world."
But the political situation in the US prompted the composer to anger. On "Who Are These People" he asks, "Who are these people that keep telling us lies and how did these people get control of our lives and who’ll stop the violence ’cause it’s out of control? Make ’em stop."
Elvis Costello, Rufus Wainwright and Dr Dre contributed to the album, which is available in the UK shortly before the US. For the full article, see Reuters.
